SummaryThe Rep's Senior Theatre Acting Repertory presents original, comedic and surprise-filled play. Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Event DescriptionSet in a senior community, the play revolves around Gladys, played by Sharon Miros-Schafle, a modern senior who sets out to test the ongoing adventure of life. “I think she speaks for all of us,” muses Silverbrand. “She is searching for her place in the world at a certain age, and I‘m using comedy to tell her story.”
Silverbrand says he valued the senior voice long before he became a senior himself: “Even in my young reporter days, I loved to interview seniors because they had so much to say about their lives. Now that I am one, I respect those voices even more,” He said.
In “Make Mine Metamucil,” Gladys is joined by other would-be senior adventurers including Mildred (Marion Love) and Morton. Morton is played by veteran actor Bob Clark, whose career includes film, television, and numerous stage appearances. [editor’s note: could use some examples here].
Stirring things up is Cubby, senior activity director and frustrated theater director. “I play that role because nobody else wanted it,” said Silverbrand. “I love the guy because he is so passionate about what he loves, just like I am.”
Joining the lively mix are two scam artists, played by Ray Sanders and James Geth. Their girlfriends are played by Becky Sanders and Zu-Kenya Zawadi. Who says there’s no romance past our salad days? Also appearing are Elaine Rowan as Connie, and Jack Van Lieu as a volunteer patrol officer.
Silverbrand says to expect plenty of laughs and surprises, just as we laugh and are surprised in our senior years…
Silverbrand last appeared in the Eureka Theater in a locally produced major motion picture. That’s when Warner Brothers premiered “Outbreak,” starring Dustin Hoffman. Silverbrand had a speaking role in that production, which portrayed the spread of a deadly virus. Today Silverbrand lives in Eureka with his wife Nina, their son Bob, and their granddaughter Alyssa. Hey, we’re all getting older. Don’t miss this opportunity to laugh at this skillfully produced comedy about the many, often comic, foibles of middle age and beyond. It’s a joy for all seniors and those who love them.
Tickets are $5.00 for all shows.
