What:
Anyone who needs a break from the winter doldrums is invited to the 13th annual “Humor Therapy” breakfast, set for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Azalea Hall in McKinleyville.
The event includes a free German farmer’s breakfast, along with hefty servings of music, jokes and comedy to lift your spirits. No tickets or reservations are required. Just show up.
Humor Therapy is a gift to the community from the United Methodist Church of the Joyful Healer in McKinleyville. It was begun in 1999 by the church’s founder, Rev. Rod Brayfindley, as a way to meet people before the church itself opened. It was so successful that it’s been held every year since.
The free breakfast will be cooked by Rolf Rheinschmidt, who owned Rolf’s Park Cafe in Orick, and others in his family.
The entertainment includes comedy by Jerry Lee Wallace and Dell’Arte students, and music by the band Fieldtown, guitarist Robert Franklin and Gregg Moore (of “Bandemonium”). There will be magic by Shantaram the Magician; skits from local Boy Scouts; and lots of jokes delivered by church members and friends. Emcee is Jeff Morales.
For more information, call the Church of the Joyful Healer, 839-5691.
