Humboldt Photography Exhibition

What:
The Redwood Art Association (RAA) and the Eureka Photoshop Users Group (EPUG) are proud to announce the Humboldt Photography Exhibition. All Humboldt County camera enthusiasts, photographers and digital artists are invited to participate.
Over $2,400 in awards will be given including a Grand Prize of an Adobe CS4 Creative Suite valued at $1800. Best of Category cash awards will be given for landscape, people, abstract, floral, digital creation, and other. The exhibition is underwritten through a generous grant from Pierson Building Center. “This exhibit will showcase the talent of Humboldt County photo artists,” says Robert Fasic, photographer and RAA Director. “It will reveal the depth and extent of creativity achieved by photographers in this county.” “The outstanding and advanced nature of photographic art here is repeatedly lauded by judges brought to Eureka by the RAA in connection with its exhibits,” says Fasic. “We want to give photographers the opportunity to exhibit this creativity as an inspiration to other photographers and the public.” Crista Dix, Owner and Director of the Wallspace Gallery in Seattle will judge the Exhibition. Dix has had diverse careers as a scientist, artist and businesswoman. She has worked in the Pacific Northwest photographic community for the last 10 years as a photographer, teacher and advisor, working with artists to refine their creative vision. She has been a member of panels and discussions on topics such as Women in Photography, and the Future of Digital Photography and the Arts. Wallspace Gallery (www.wallspaceseattle.com) opened in 2004 and focuses on promoting new and emerging artists who are looking to incorporate photography into a larger vision. The gallery works with artists utilizing photography as a creative element, telling stories on multiple levels. Dix is interested in seeing bodies of work that cross the lines of the traditional image, transcending process or technique. “I’m excited about collaborating with another Humboldt artist organization,” stated Roy Grieshaber, RAA President. “This type of outreach is part of our new vision and the RAA strategic plan.”
The Redwood Art Association is a community of artists dedicated to the creation of art as an important and indispensable part of life and the economy of Humboldt County. It has a membership of more than 200 artists. The Eureka Photoshop Users Group supports photographers and other artists by sharing ideas and information about the use of Adobe Photoshop, the premier image editing software for photographers and graphic designers.
“Our group is an ideal place for photographers and digital artists to enhance their skills and meet like-minded people,” said Hal Work, Group Manager and RAA Director. “As an official Adobe users group, we occasionally have access to software from Adobe Systems,” says Work. “Our contribution of the Adobe CS4 Creative Suite as a grand prize, and the RAA’s experience with organizing and promoting large art exhibitions was a logical partnership to produce this exhibition.” The exhibition will be at the RAA gallery at 220 First Street in Eureka’s Old Town and will run from September 23 through October 16. Entry day is Saturday, September 19 between 11 am – 3 pm. Entry fees are $15 per entry with a maximum of three entries per person. Neither EPUG nor RAA membership is required. Exhibition entry forms and more information are available at www.redwoodart.org. Entry forms will also be available on entry day.
