Humboldt Hempfest
What:
With the 20th annual Humboldt Hemp Fest right around the corner on the weekend of November 12-14 at the Mateel Community Center in Redway, this special 3-day celebration (a Hemp Fest first) will kick off on Friday, November 12th with the hilarious theatrical comedy, The Marijuana-Logues. Featuring renowned comedians, Tony Camin, Rob Cantrell, and Dan Gabriel, The Marijuana-Logues played Off-Broadway throughout 2004/05 and has since been touring nationally to great audience acclaim. Told from all points of view, from hazy to highbrow, The Marijuana-Logues never loses the pot…er point, demonstrating that the stories surrounding the bud are as varied as those who indulge. The show sets herb center stage, delving into fact and fiction, myths and misnomers alike. And, as a special treat, this Hemp Fest comedy kick-off will also feature a stand up set by the evening’s host, Ngaio Bealum, a side-splitting Sacramento based comic known for his pot comedy and activism.
The weekend will then unfold with the main Hemp Fest event on Saturday, November 13th, which will feature a full day of music, speakers, dance, comedy, film, and vendors , showcasing performances by The 420 Funk Mob (featuring members of Parliament/ Funkdelic), Lukas Nelson & The Promise Of The Real, Tribalvoice featuring John Trudell, Chief Greenbud, Ambush, To Life!, Crossroads, Selby Minner, Ngaio Bealum, Rockin Rubies, Onyx Moon, and the Mashakai/ Round Valley Dancers, plus a tribute to Jack Herer and lots more. Stay tuned to the Hemp Fest page at www.mateel.org for the full entertainment and speaker schedule, plus other featured activities. Doors open at 11am with a suggested donation of $20 for the full day event.
Then on Sunday, November 14th, the weekend’s festivities will culminate with a free hemp fest forum. Open from 2pm to 6pm, this event will offer a panel discussion with a wide variety of expert speakers, plus a break out session where the public will have an opportunity to engage with various stakeholder groups about what’s next for hemp/ marijuana reform in Humboldt, California, and beyond.
