What:
Humboldt Handweaver’s And Spinner’s Guild May Meeting is MAY 13, 2010, 6:45 P.M. THE MEETING WILL BE HELD IN THE LARGE MEETING HALL AT HUMBOLDT AREA FOUNDATION, 373 BAYSIDE ROAD IN BAYSIDE. Our program this month will feature our own guild member Janet Finch. Janet Finch is a fiber artist who likes to try new things. She has knitted, crocheted, sewn and woven things all of her life. In recent years Janet has been operating her wool mill “Aunt Janet’s Fiber Mill” in Whitethorn, California where she processes raw wool into roving and batting.
Janet has been studying weaving recently in workshops put on by the HHSG, and CNCH. She has been dabbling in weaving and learning by fits and starts.
Last year, Janet was awarded the HHSG scholarship to pursue knowledge about handwoven decorative trim. This program will be an overview of all she has learned in her studies over the past year.
The types of trim include: Bands with picots, loops, and twists and woven fringe. Janet will present several pieces of commercial trim commonly found in fabric stores, and discuss means of creating these trims on hand looms of various types. Janet will demonstrate weaving trim on inkle looms. There will be several inkle looms warped with various trim. Program attendees can try their hand at weaving the trims.
We hope to see you there. Please visit our website at www.hhsguild.org. For more information you may call Rima at (707) 442-2646 or Linda at 599-2729.
