Humboldt Handweavers and Spinners Guild
What:
The March 11, 2010, Humboldt Handweaver’s and Spinner’s Guild will be meeting at the Humboldt County Office of Education at 901 Myrtle Ave., Eureka in the Sequoia building, Room B. The board meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. and the regular meeting begins with snacks at 6:45 p.m.
Providing our program this month is Linda Anderson. Linda Sheldon Anderson, having grown up on a dairy farm in Vermont, has appreciated the value and warmth of wool all her life. She began knitting at the age of four under the tutelage of he mother, later moving on to crochet. An award winning spinner, Linda often incorporates her own hand spun yarn into her work. In 1984, she acquired a true double bed “Passap” machine knitting loom, on which she produces knitwear including scarves, hats, socks, afghans, and layettes. Her web site is www.timberwool.com
Beyond the web, Linda has marketed her fine knitwear at The Mateel Art Cooperative, in Garberville, California, and at numerous art and craft fairs. Linda will demonstrate knitting on the Passap Duomatic, manufactured in Switzerland, over 25 years ago. It is a double bed knitting machine, capable of knitting from either one or both beds, which are each made up of 180 latch hooks. Because of the quickness and ease of merely pushing an attachment called a lock across the bed of needles, a whole row is knit in seconds!! With this machine, one can knit circularly, making the foot part of socks, or tube ski hats. When using both beds, many finely laced, and deeply textured fabrics, including those chosen from punchcards, can be knit.
