H1N1 Vaccine Clinic

What:

The Area 1 Agency on Aging (A1AA) is partnering with the Humboldt County Public Health Department to provide an H1N1 flu vaccine clinic for seniors and others.  On Thursday, March 12, from 9AM to noon, public health nurses will be at the Area 1 Agency on Aging Building, 434 7th Street in Eureka, to give doses of the vaccine to members of the public.  There will be no charge.  The clinic will be open to everyone, said A1AA Executive Director Cindy Denbo.  “We invite people of all ages to take advantage of this opportunity—it is a quick and easy process and it is free.”

Nurses are taking H1N1 vaccine clinics to any site where there are more than 20 individuals who want protection from the flu. Vaccine clinics have been offered to communities, supermarkets, casinos and at sporting events.  Public Health will provide these H1N1 vaccine clinics at no charge to the public.

The Public Health Branch of the Department of Health and Human Services has distributed more than 15,000 doses of the vaccine since clinics began in the fall. This has greatly limited the spread of flu in our county.

Flu activity has decreased in recent weeks but epidemiologists caution that a decline in cases does not necessarily indicate the pandemic is waning. Influenza historically comes in waves.
