ROOR and Media Contender present Glitches in The Switches, with DJ Gaslamp Killer, 12th Planet and Bounca, a Natural Expansion & Humboldt Limited Trade Company launch party. A night of bass music, dancing, painted skin art ladies, an exclusive showcase of the largest ROOR custom glass gallery in North America and hosted by Luie Hand and a very special appearance by DreadyBob of Weedworld (UK) Friday, February 12, at Arcata Theatre Lounge, 1036 G St in Arcata. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Cost is $20 at the door, $15 advanced at inticketing.com and is 21 and over.

The Gaslamp Killer is a Los Angeles-based DJ whose eclectic style ranges from psychedelia and world music to dubstep and left-field hip-hop. Associated with Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder Records, he made his production debut in the late 2000s with a series of EPs. Born William Benjamin Bensussen, he originally comes from San Diego, CA, whose downtown Gaslamp District’s bar scene inspired him to name himself the Gaslamp Killer in disgust for much of the patronage. Upon relocating to Los Angeles, he found a niche for himself amid the city’s massive underground party scene and ultimately found a home as a resident DJ at the club Low End Theory, which resulted in a series of club-sponsored podcasts.

John (12th Planet) started over from scratch. After seven years touring the world as drum-n-bass maestro Infiltrata, after winning over icons such as Goldie and Photek, John Dadzie gave himself a new name, a new sound, and a new determination. It was 2005 and the gentile beatmaker was inspired by sounds he heard spun by the likes Technical Itch, Skream and Benga. It was dubstep. And it was his calling. Once 12th Planet is born, the story really begins. The British dubstep movement takes hold in Los Angeles thanks to 12th Planet and the events he aligns himself with; Smog, Media Contender, HARD, and his own club night Dubtroit. Like the mythological twelfth planet (popularized by controversial author Zecharia Sitchin), our 12th Planet flies perpendicular to the system. His wicked beats are off axis. His subsonic frequencies surround you in their own orbit. America’s first king of dubstep is ready for impact.
