Native American flute and grand dulcimer player perform at the Arcata Playhouse.

Mount Shasta’s Native American flute player and Grammy award nominee Gentle Thunder will perform for her first time in Humboldt County offering up her unique wooden flute, grand hammer dulcimer and drumming talents on Friday, March 19 at 8:00 p.m at the Arcata Playhouse.  In addition to her music she will also share information on a wide variety of organizations dedicated to bringing about a sustainable peaceful world. “The music I do is to inspire and make a difference. I do events, not performances. It’s a beautiful sharing, a co-creative experience,” GT said. “I show up fully and as clearly as I can, step out of the way, keep my heart open, let the instrument of spirit play me. As an artist, every tune is alive and vital.” The last year has seen Gentle Thunder perform in over 50 events on the west coast, New Mexico and Austin, Texas. Gene Bates of Whispering Wind Magazine wrote this of her most recent CD, “An alluring alliance of Native American flute, grand hammer dulcimer and percussion, this multi-instrumentalist is hitting on all cylinders on her latest release. The performances are strong, the songwriting is solid and the arrangements are flawless.” **

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers.  Thunder is in Humboldt as a guest to offer the opening musical prayer at the screening of the film “For the Next 7 Generations” at the Morris Graves Museum on Saturday, March 20.
