ATTRACTING BIRDS TO YOUR YARD AND GARDEN

The Eureka Sequoia Garden Club will meet on Thursday, March 25, 2010, at the Eureka Woman’s Club, 1531 J Street, Eureka (at J and 16th). The business meeting starts at 11:00 am and the luncheon at 12:00 noon. Refreshments and dessert will be provided; bring your own sandwich.

The program begins at 12:30 pm. and features Louise Bacon-Ogden. She will describe various ways to help us enjoy the energy and activity that song birds can bring us. Her topic is “Birds in the Garden: Attracting Them, Feeding Them and Housing Them.” Bacon-Ogden was the original owner of Strictly for the Birds store, located in Old Town Eureka. She is a Master Gardener and her home has been on three major garden tours.

Visitors and those interested in gardening are invited to attend this meeting, beginning at 11:00 am. Those looking to join a garden club are especially welcome.

The April 22 meeting presents the FoxFarm Soil and Fertilizer Co., a local Humboldt County business. They will help us in “Preparing to Plant” for spring and summer.

The Eureka Sequoia Garden Club, founded in 1967, is a member of the California Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Humboldt District, California Garden Clubs, Inc. Our Goals are to create and promote interest in horticulture gardening and floral and landscape design; to encourage and engage in civic beautification and the improvement of roadsides; to aid in protecting California’s native plants, wildlife and natural beauty; and to promote, and participate in, projects and programs that conserve our natural resources. Meetings are held the Fourth Thursday of each month at the Eureka Woman’s Club 1531 J Street, Eureka, at 11 am.
