Fourth Friday Flicks takes a break this month from Billy Wilder films and swerves to Lena Wertmuller's Swept Away (1974), an Italian satirical social drama of class conflict. A wealthy, beautiful socialite (Mariangela Melato) becomes marooned on a tiny Mediterranean island alone with a working class sailor (Giancarlo Giannini). Does the class dynamic of exploiter and exploited stay the same or does the extreme situation force a change of power in the relationship? What would Karl Marx do? In Italian with English subtitles.
