What:
KHUM 104.3 and 104.7 is once again teaming up with Food For People, Humboldt County’s food bank to help push this year’s Holliday Sprit Food and Fund drive over the top. For a one-week period, the KHUM DJs will take turns doing their shows live from various supermarkets throughout the county to encourage people to donate food and money. Ann Holcomb, Executive Director for food for people says the need for food and fund donations is bigger than ever. With this year’s economic downturn, requests for food aid have gone up substantially throughout the county ranging from nearly 20% to over 200%. These are people who have never requested food aid before.
“The Holiday Spirit Food and Fund drive is something that Food for People does every year; our live broadcasts from around the county are designed to help call attention to the effort and get an increase in donations for the week,” said Cliff Berkowitz, KHUM founder and morning show host. “We’ve done this for several years now and it does seem to help. At KHUM we like taking our shows on the road; next week though it will be for a higher purpose.” The following is next week’s broadcast schedule:
Monday November 30th: Eureka Co-op Host: DJ Larry Trask 2pm – 6pm
Tuesday December 1st: Wildberries Host: DJ Cliff Berkowitz 6am – 10am
Wednesday December 2nd: Ray’s Shop Smart Redway Host: DJ Larry Trask 2pm – 6pm
Thursday December 3rd: Ray’s Mckinleyville Host: DJ Cliff Berkowitz 6am – 10am
Friday December 4th: Grocery Outlet Host: DJ Mike Dronkers 10am – 2pm
Representatives from Food For People and local food pantries will also be on hand most of the day at those same locations along with KHUM’s Amy Berkowitz. They will call into KHUM from the food drive with updates on totals gathered throughout the day. Food donated in each community will stay in that community. “Let’s work together to make sure that all our friends and neighbors have enough to eat,” says Amy Berkowitz, KHUM DJ.
