What:
In memory of Morris Graves, the Humboldt Arts Council is offering an artist workshop focusing on Morris’ bird paintings.
Born on August 28th, 1910 this year would have been Graves 100th birthday. Come celebrate the life of Morris Graves by enjoying an afternoon of painting birds and exploring their symbolism in his art.
Morris Graves used birds as symbols of spirituality and a sense of oneness with the universe. He sketched many animals, but birds were always the most symbolic, becoming the medium through which Graves expressed not only his personal emotions and states of being, but also the universal psychology of living things.
This workshop, taught by Janice Sharman Hand, is for the beginner to intermediate artist. Basic art materials will be provided. Medium: watercolor washes, pastels, colored pencils and more. The workshop fee is $80 or $75 for current HAC Members. Contact the Humboldt Arts Council at 707-442-0278, ext. 208 to register!
