Eureka Symphony 2011 Youth Concert

What:

The Eureka Symphony’s annual Youth Concert, partially sponsored by Humboldt Sponsors,  will be held Friday night, February 4, 8:00 p.m., and Saturday afternoon, February 5, at 2.p.m.. at the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts.

Three audition winners will perform on stage with the Eureka Symphony, conducted by Carol Jacobson.  The 2011 Youth Competition winners are Mira Weidman, Angela Petricca, and Kira Weiss.
Mira Weidman, soprano, will sing Giunse alfin il momento…Deh vieni non tardar by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.   Mira has seriously studied classical voice and theater performance for the past 6 years.  For 9 years, she has performed in many plays with HLOC and Instantaneous Theater.  Most recently, honor student Mira played the step sister in Rossini’s La Cererentola with the San Francisco Opera Guild; and performed a solo as part of the Frank Loesser Musical Review.
Flautist Angela Petricca will play Concerto in G Major - Adagio non troppo by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.   Home schooled early on,  Angela currently attends Alder Grove Charter School.  Next year she will attend the Northcoast Preparatory and Performing Arts Academy.
Kira Weiss will perform on the piano J. S. Bach’s Concerto in D Minor - Allegro.A sophomore at Arcata High School, Kira plays cello with the Armack Orchestra and the Eureka Symphony.   Kira performed a cello concerto with the Eureka Symphony in 2007.  She has attended three all-state orchestras.  She sees the piano as the most readable map of  all musical instruments  and loves being able to see music theory beneath her fingers.
Conductor Carol Jacobson and the orchestra will perform Georges Bizet’s Carmen SuiteFantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes by Grace Williams, and themes from Jurassic Park by John Williams.
With his dramatic voice Donald Forrest will narrate a selection from James Thurber’s MANY MOONS with the music of Alan Shulman.   His narratives are always an exciting part of the Youth Competition Concert.
Anita Fullbright will conduct the Eureka Symphony as it plays the national anthem.
Single concert tickets are available for premium seating sections:  LOGE: $23; Center Orchestra: $21.    General assigned seating prices are $16 for Adults and $9 for Students.   Under 12 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. For ticket information  call 707-442-1956,  the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts, 412 G Street, Eureka, California.   For further information regarding the Eureka Symphony, visit  their website www.eurekasymphony.com.
