What:
Eureka Sequoia Garden Club
ENRICHING YOUR SOIL FOR A HEALTHIER GARDEN
The Eureka Sequoia Garden Club will meet on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Eureka Woman’s Club, 1531 J Street, Eureka (at J and 16th). The business meeting starts at 11:00 am and the luncheon at 12:00 noon. Refreshments and dessert will be provided; bring your own sandwich.
The program begins at 12:30 pm. and features a presentation by the FoxFarm Soil and Fertilizer Co. They will tell us how to enrich our soils through the use of organic soil amendments, as we prepare to plant for Spring and Summer. By making our clay soils more productive we can produce healthier flowers and vegetables. And a more healthy soil gives us a better environment. A local company that has been producing premium plant foods and fertilizers for over 17 years, FoxFarm has now expanded into national distribution of their products to all 50 states. In Humboldt County, alone, they are available in at least 57 locations.
A special bonus for attendees this month is a Flower Arranging Class at 10:00 am. This features Mary Lou Goodwin, owner of Eureka Florist and past president of California Garden Clubs, Inc. She will teach us how to enjoy a “Touch of Spring.” Attendees must bring their own container, flowers and pruners.
Visitors and those interested in gardening are invited to attend this meeting, beginning at 11:00 am. Those looking to join a garden club are especially welcome.
The May 27 meeting features Gary Todoroff, a local professional photographer, who has been taking beautiful pictures for over 30 years. He will teach us how to enjoy our gardens throughout the year with “Garden Photography.”
The Eureka Sequoia Garden Club, founded in 1967, is a member of the California Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Humboldt District, California Garden Clubs, Inc. Our Goals are to create and promote interest in horticulture gardening and floral and landscape design; to encourage and engage in civic beautification and the improvement of roadsides; to aid in protecting California’s native plants, wildlife and natural beauty; and to promote, and participate in, projects and programs that conserve our natural resources. Meetings are held the Fourth Thursday of each month at the Eureka Woman’s Club 1531 J Street, Eureka, at 11 am.
