The phenomenal 24 year-old musical prodigy Esperanza Spalding has quickly become the hottest new arrival on the jazz scene. Equally impressive as a vocalist, bassist and bandleader, she will, in fact, challenge and expand your perceptions of jazz. Named after the Spanish word for hope, she could not have been given a more fitting name—she may well be the best hope for the future of jazz and instrumental music. Appearing with her quartet, she takes a completely fresh approach by incorporating the rich traditions of soul, pop, and world music with post-bop harmonies and lilting vocals sung in English, Spanish and Portuguese. In demand around the world, she has twice appeared in command performances at the White House.
