Author and Marine Life Photographer Marc Shargel Takes Readers On a Visual Voyage Beneath Northern California’s Ocean

Award-winning marine life photographer and author Marc Shargel will be in the Arcata area for a series of events this week. HeÆs on a book tour promoting his just-released Wonders of the Sea Volume Three: Hidden Treasures of CaliforniaÆs Far North Coast. The book contains dazzling photographs of the animals that live on and under the ocean just off our local coastline. The gorgeous images are accompanied by entertaining text that manages to teach oceanography, marine biology and environmental history in the course of an armchair journey down the coast from the Oregon Border to Point Arena.

Wonders of the Sea Volume Three also provides a new perspective on the hotly debated creation of marine protected areas along our shores. Views of dozens of the animals that live in the areas that may become ôparks in the oceanö offer startling testimony that our ocean is much, much more than a source of seafood. First-hand stories told by numerous local residents express the social, recreational, economic, and even spiritual value so many place on the health of our ocean.
