They Ate Everything But Their Boots

What:

DeMark marks the 100th Anniversary of Blue Lake
Renovating his story of Home Ownership

Blue Lake writer-performer Jeff DeMark brings back his latest show, “They Ate Everything But Their Boots,” to Dell’Arte’s intimate Carlo Theatre Nov 12-14 at 8pm. Music will be performed by Time Randles and Matt Knight with a cameo by Jerry Lee Wallace.

“They Ate Everything But Their Boots” debuted November of 2006 at the Bayside Grange to an overflow crowd in a benefit for KHSU.   In reviewing the show, the North Coast Journal wrote, “The capacity crowd at the Bayside Grange was with DeMark for every word, not only laughing but shrieking and sighing…the audience responded not only to the ruefully comic but to the emotional and even mystical meaning of home.”

“Boots” details the pleasures, pains and outright madness of searching for a home in Humboldt County and the process of renovating a 100-year-old Victorian in Blue Lake with narrative detours about working at Fred Flintstone’s Bedrock City, a phone encounter with writer Charles Bukowski and numerous other stories, many of them humorous.

Local actor and theater teacher Cathy Butler collaborated on the creation of the show along with Larry Hamlin of Madison, Wisconsin.  DeMark’s stories will be musically backed by Tim Randles and Matt Knight. Michelle McCall Wallace and Jerry Lee Wallace designed the set.

Tickets for the event are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and are available at www.dellarte.com or by calling 707.668.5663. Net proceeds for Friday’s show will be a benefit for Arcata House, which provides transitional housing for families. Major sponsorship is provided by Northcoast Horticulture Supply.

10 play for $100 buck season subscriptions are also available until Dec. 31 and may be used for 10 of the 18 shows Dell’Arte will be presenting in this their 40th anniversary (including the Mad River Festival shows).

DeMark has written four other one-man shows, “Writing My Way Out of Adolescence,” “Went to Lunch, Never Returned,” “Making Every Mistake Twice,” and ‘Hard as a Diamond, Soft as the Dirt.”   He has performed the shows frequently since 1993, both locally and nationally.
