Supporting Neely Film Premiere

What:

The premiere film screening of “Supporting Bonnie: A Tribute to Bonnie Neely” is set for Sunday, May 23, at 7pm at the Accident Gallery, 210 C St., Eureka.

Local filmmaker Maria Matteoli’s short documentary depicts a wide array of supporters who are backing Neely in her run for Humboldt County’s 4th District Supervisor. While segments from the film have been released on the internet, this is the first public showing of the film in its entirety. This event is free and open to the public and features five short films of supporters’ interviews.

“As one of the few female video producers in this county, I am honored to have the opportunity to work with Bonnie,” said Matteoli who directed and produced the film. “I was awed by the number and diversity of people who came forward to speak on Bonnie’s behalf. I was touched and impressed at their universal sincerity and conviction that Bonnie truly is the best person for this job. I have learned so much about her, not only her accomplishments, but also about her history as an advocate and believer in the necessity of the arts in this community. As a seventh-generation Humboldt County native and a Eureka resident, I strongly support Bonnie Neely, and I am proud to be involved in this project.”

Matteoli runs the local video production company Mermade Film. Recently, she created short films to market and showcase locally made products. The films, “Humboldt Made” and “Love, Humboldt,” feature entrepreneurial success stories to better position the county in the niche industries of high-quality specialty foods, wines and agricultural products. The February premiere of “Love, Humboldt” at the Arcata Theatre Lounge was sold-out, with 750 in attendance and another 250 who were turned away at the door due to space constraints.

“It has been wonderful working with Maria as she truly has a fresh approach,” Neely said. “She has used her considerable talents as a filmmaker to the benefit of our community. It’s thrilling to be the chosen film subject of such a creative, successful young woman.”

More information on Neely’s campaign, along with sneak peeks of the film “Supporting Bonnie,” can be found at www.bonnieneely.com.
