Poets and Writers

What:

College of the Redwoods will celebrate its annual Poets and Writers event on Friday, April 29  starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Forum Building, Classroom #100 on the Eureka main campus.

Faculty Advisor Vinnie Peloso credits the program’s high caliber to the student editors who make all the selections, award the prizes, organize and staff the event, coach the performers and keep the program afloat.  This year’s editors are Careyanna Adams, Emily Azevedo, Jesse Summerson and Elysia Willis.

This year’s winning writers include community members, faculty and students.  They are Nancy Cloward, Heidi Dobbs, Brad Frost, Susanna S. Gallisdorfer, Jessica Grant, E. M. Mackey, Brain S. Millett, JoAnn Moore, Catherine Munsee, Patrick Ory and Vanessa Pike-Vrtiak.  All have been invited to read their work on April 29.

In addition, two prizes, one for prose and one for poetry will be awarded from sponsors Booklegger Books and Northtown Books.  Ten more writers will also see their work printed in this year’s chapbook.

The reading will be preceded by a reception at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available for sale with all proceeds supporting the Poets and Writers program.  The 2011 Poets and Writers chapbook will be for sale after the reading.
