Pig Tree

What:

There are places in Arcata that you pass often but pay no attention to: the strip of grass as you get onto the 101 South to Eureka, the abandoned railroads that go all the way through town, that bit of G street after you pass the Pleasure Center but before you get to Sunset. It is in just such a place that a group of area theater artists will present the premier of a new play May 6, 7, and 8.

Pig Tree is a New apocalyptic comedy written by Dell’Arte International faculty member James Peck. The unique location of the premier: outdoors behind the Humboldt Creamery Building in conjunction with the Arcata Playhouse, and with the approval of the rest of the building’s artistic community and owners. The group chose the performance location because it perfectly supported the desolate atmosphere the play sets out to create.

Set in a world where there has been no comeback from the economic downturn, *Pig Tree * is the absurd story of two servants who live in the ruins of their employers’ mansion. These bumbling characters are trapped by their own inaction and complacency, waiting around for someone to save them. Someone shows up eventually, but they are nothing but trouble.

The play features four actors who are graduates of the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater in Blue Lake, along with two area high school students (one from Arcata High and one from Six Rivers High.)

*Pig Tree * runs Thursday May 6 to Saturday May 8 at 8:000 pm, outdoors behind the Arcata Playhouse at 1251 9th Street in Arcata. Tickets are $8. Call the Arcata Playhouse at 822-1575 for more information or to make reservations.
