Ocean Night Film Screening with Dear and Yonder and more Thursday, December 3, at 7 p.m., at the Arcata Theatre Lounge, 1036 G St in Arcata. Doors opens at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m., cost is $2 donation and free for OC, Surfrider and Baykeeper members and is all ages.
Ocean Night happens the first Thursday of every month. From majestic documentaries to epic surf flicks, explore the great blue sea with Ocean Conservancy, Humboldt Surfrider and Humboldt Baykeeper.
Dear & Yonder (2009) is a surf movie created by Tiffany Campbell and Andria Lessler. It features a dynamic cast of ladies, some of whom are bathed in the limelight while others have only existed in quiet pockets until now. Each of their stories is unique, but a spirit of adventure and love they have for the ocean connects them. The movie tracks the unbridled progression of top professionals Stephanie Gilmore,. Sally Gitzgibbons, Coco Ho, Silvana Lima and Sofia Mulanovich, as they immerse themselves in Indonesia’s green caves and aqua faces. In addition to documenting the most progressive surfing of today, Dear & Yonder spreads its roots deeper into new soils that cultivate knowledge of place, a sense of history, and encourage sustainable practices. The hope is for the depth and beauty of the film to traverse perceived boundaries and for each viewer to take a meaningful piece with them that will percolate positively back into our communities and lineups.
