Myth Understanding

What:

The Playhouse Family Fun series continues on Friday and Saturday, April 16 & 17 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 17 at 2 p.m. with Seattle’s theater simple.  Fresh from a month long tour of Australia and with a series of rave reviews under their belt, this inventive ensemble theater company will be performing their all ages show Myth Understandings at the Arcata Playhouse.

Myth Understandings is a funny, physical and sideways look at well–known myths and fairy tales, and a peek at their variations and origins. It begins as two excitable scientists are test-driving their new automatic, personal thinking machine, the “iHed”, containing all the worlds’ myths and stories. Technical disaster throws the two into the middle of a world of adventure excitement and danger. Audience members will probably recognize the stories being told, but not quite this way. Actors Andrew Litsky and Monique Kleinhans play the two scientists that are captured in a passion of story-telling.

Playhouse theater manager David Ferney said of the troupe, “We are thrilled to finally have our friends from Seattle who are regulars on the Australian festival circuit performing at the Playhouse. We have seen their work in Canada, New York and in Australia and just know that our Humboldt crowds will love them.”

All performances are at the Arcata Playhouse, 1251-9th St, Arcata.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under with a $30 family ticket and are available at Bubbles in Arcata. For reservations call (707) 822-1575.

The Playhouse Family Fun Series 2010 is a three part performance series that offers high quality entertainment for low cost to Humboldt County families. In its fourth year, the series features an intimate setting to see live performance from outside the area.  The series is sponsored by Kokatat Watersports Wear, Coast Central Credit Union, First Five Humboldt and the Irvine Foundation.
