What:
Mark Twain (real name: Samuel Langhorne Clemens) lived from 1835 to 1910 and is the noted author of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The year 2010 marks the 175th anniversary of his birth and the 100th anniversary of his death (April 21, 1910). Although it has been 100 years since he spoke out against bigotry, racism, and hypocrisy, he is still widely read and quoted daily around the world. Perhaps the most perpetually relevant American author, Twain resonates with readers because he knew human nature - its good side and its bad side. Upon his death he was lauded as the “greatest American humorist of his age” and William Faulkner called Twain “the father of American literature”.
The iconic author and personality along with his wit, wisdom, humor, and hyperbole will come to life in Mark Twain: Travelingon stage at the Arcata Playhouse on Saturday, May 1 at 8:00 p.m.This one-person performance, created and performed by New York City actor and Twain scholar Cal Pritner, is a mostly comic, occasionally serious work that celebrates Twain’s decidedly irreverent thoughts on the people he met and the places he saw in a lifetime of world travel. Pritner has performed Mark Twain: Traveling all across the country to rave reviews and now returns to the Arcata Playhouse to give us a chance to join in the celebration of this exceptional American figure. Tickets are $15 general & $10 students and seniors and are available at Northtown Books, online at brownpapertickets.com or by calling (707) 822-1575. The Arcata Playhouse is located at 1251 9th Street in Arcata in the Old Creamery Building.
