Humble Boy Preview

What:

Hysteria, delusion, death – just your typical family gathering. Felix Humble comes home to attend his beekeeper father’s funeral and finds that his overbearing mother has exiled the bees, and taken the boorish neighbor as her lover. Add a family friend, a dutiful gardener, and a visitor from his own romantic past, and like the bees, Felix bumbles to find order amid the chaos.

First performed at the Royal National Theatre in England in 2001, this award-winning comedy by Charlotte Jones has been a hit in regional theatres around the United States.

“We’ve been wanting to produce Humble Boy for years,” said RC Artistic Director Clint Rebik.  “Several of us saw it in Ashland in 2004, and loved it…and knew it would be a great piece for Redwood Curtain.  It’s been waiting in the wings, so to speak, for us to find our new home.”

Led by Director Cassandra Hesseltine, the cast includes Redwood Curtain veterans Susan Abbey, Gary Sommers, Christina Jioras and James Read. Newcomers Theresa Ireland and Dmitry Tokarsky round out the talented cast.

Designers on the project include Daniel C Nyiri on scenic design, Michael Burkhart on lighting, Catherine Dawson and Jessica Charles doing costumes, and Jon Turney on sound.

Humble Boy previews on Thursday and Friday November 4th and 5th, with $10 tickets, and opening night with Gala reception is Saturday, November 6th, with tickets at $17.  Performances continue Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights through November 20th.  Cheap date Thursdays on November 11th and 18th: two tickets for $20.  A 2pm Sunday matinee takes place on November 14th.  Ticket price on Friday and Saturday (except Gala) nights is $15.

Redwood Curtain’s new home is at 220 First Street (between C and D) in Old Town, Eureka.  Main entrance through Snug Alley.

As the new theatre is intimate with only 80 seats, reservations are highly recommended, and there is no late seating.  Evening performances begin promptly at 8pm, Sunday matinees at 2pm.
