What:
Romantic triangles, obsessions and grand emotions abound melo·dra·ma *‘me-l&-“drä-m&, -“dra-*1 a*: a work (as a movie or play) characterized by extravagant theatricality and by the predominance of plot and physical action over characterization* Romantic triangles, neurosis, obsession, and the struggle against repressive forces are all standard fare as the students from Dell’Arte’s MFA and Professional Training Programs present an evening of melodrama – an evening sure to be extravagantly emotional, profoundly physical and truly theatrical. Melodrama is based on the play between human circumstances that are tragically irreversible and the triumph of virtues – courage, love, honor and justice. Grand emotions are a theme ever present within a form where good matches evil and characters believe in absolute values with such conviction that they are willing to sacrifice themselves for them. For the past four weeks, Dell’Arte teachers Ronlin Foreman has guided the actors through the Melodramatic territory, a style normally associated with twirling mustaches and maidens tied to railway lines. With these six deeply moving tales, however, the themes are developed around circumstances that create genuine human dilemmas. “On the Wings of a Dove” runs in the Carlo Theatre Friday and Saturday, March 18-20 in the Carlo Theatre in Blue Lake. All performances are pay-what-you-can.. For reservations call 707-668-5663 Ext. 20.
