College/Careers Colors Day

What:

The Humboldt County Office of Education is pleased to announce an exciting and important local community engagement event sponsored by the Decade of Difference – 20/20 Initiative.  College/Careers Colors Day will be held on Friday Sept. 3, 2010

College/Careers Colors Day is a national annual event dedicated to promote the value of higher education in the United States by encouraging alumni, fans, and students to wear apparel and/or the colors of their favorite college, university, trade school, or vocational program on one day each fall. Everyone is encouraged to participate…students and adults alike!

A primary goal of the Humboldt County Office of Education, along with the Decade of Difference-20/20 Initiative, is to increase the rates of high school students attending formal post-secondary educational programs such as college, university, vocational programs, and trade schools. Promoting a community wide college-going culture is just one of the strategies used to achieve this goal. College/Careers Colors Day will bring awareness to the importance of post-secondary education participation in a fun, interactive, community-minded manner.

Schools, businesses, parents, students, and community partners throughout Humboldt and Del Norte Counties are encouraged to participate in College/Careers Colors Day. Please visit the Humboldt County Office of Education website (www.humboldt.k12.ca.us) to find the College Careers Colors Day banner and an electronic flyer promoting the event.

Local media coverage will be present in support of this event. For further information on how to coordinate your organizations’ participation in this event with local media representatives, please contact Pam Gosselin at 445-7086 or at pgosselin@hunboldt.k12.ca.us
