Classical Concert

What:

Eighteen Love Song Waltzes by Johannes Brahms performed by six current and former Humboldt State University music students in two performances, in Eureka at Calvary Lutheran Church on Friday, April 23rd at 8:00 pm, and in Trinidad at Trinidad Town Hall on Saturday, April 24th @ 2:00 pm.  Both concerts are free, but donations benefiting the HSU Department of Music Scholarship Fund will be gladly accepted at the door. More about this concert While this work is often performed by a choir with piano accompaniment, Brahms actually composed the famous “Liebeslieder-Waltzer” for piano four-hands and four solo singers.  This concert is a rare opportunity to hear the songs performed as the composer originally intended.  HSU graduating seniors Emily Loeffler and Jonathan Webster share the keyboard and are joined by singers Katherine Kinley, Sarah Benzinger and Chris Hatcher, who are all 2009 HSU graduates, as well as past HSU music student Kevin Sharkey.  The program will also include additional piano and vocal works by Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, and Clara Schumann.
