Canibus (hip-hop)

What:

12 years have passed since Canibus debut album Can-I-Bus hit the Billboard charts in 1998, peaking at #2 behind Lauryn Hill. Whether you know him as Rip the Jacker, Poet Laureate, the Infinite Emcee, or just Can-I-Bus, hip hop heads all over the world know that Germaine Williams aka Canibus is a force to be reckoned with on the microphone. Canibus continues to educate his listeners through his powerful poetry and mind-puzzling imagery. As a lyricist, Canibus continues to take us to the outer edges of our imaginations.

On February 9th, Canibus struck back at the industry with his new album MELATONIN MAGIK, a War Lab Records release. This album has been described as both “controversial” and the “answer to the negative side effects of Canibus. The beats have been praised as some of his best to date. Most interpret this album to be an expression of Canibus¼ views on a hip hop culture under attack from all sides. Imposing social engineering and cultural hegemony, the media enslaves artists who are presented as real hip hop but whose pop corruptions indicate a deceptive attempt by the powers to dilute what real hip hop is.

Unwilling to let these crimes against hip hop culture go undetected, Canibus enlists the help of Professor Griff from Public Enemy, who hosts the album, lending an allied voice to Canibus’ clarion call. There is a war for the soul of hip hop, and MELATONIN MAGIK has entered the fray. With his devastating lyrical prowess on the mic, Canibus is ready to defy all odds and recapture the hearts of hip hop heads once again.
