California Catalysts For Change is a new group working with innovative community initiatives. This group includes the Alternatives to Suicide organization that started in November of 2007 to address the continuing growth in the problem of people choosing to end their lives needlessly.
The most current priority is to reach teens and transitional age youth who may be at high risk of suicide attempts.
This new organization will also work as an enabling and empowering group for those with diagnostic labels that cause discrimination and stigma within the community.
Self-Advocacy, education and empowerment of the client-community will be an ongoing priority. We will encourage growth and risk-taking so that these persons can attempt their dream, their promises and their possibilities.
This is a statewide group headquartered in Humboldt County.
Our first organizational meeting will be on July 21st at the Municipal Water District Building Conference Room at
7th and āJā Street, 2pm
Interested parties in suicide prevention and mental health issues are urged to attend.
