C Street Market Square Grand Opening

What:

The citizens of Eureka are invited to celebrate the opening of the C Street Market Square, Saturday, October 16 from noon to 2:00 p.m. An important aspect of the character and atmosphere of the square are six sculptures created by local artists. You will have an opportunity to meet the sculptors: Marilyn Andrews, Elizabeth Berrien, John King, Rick Kistler, Sierra Pahl, and Jack Sewell.

Pan Dulce Steel Drum Band will play from noon to 1:00 p.m., and a dedication ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m. This will be followed by more entertainment including Humboldt Light Opera Company, and The Ink People Center for the Arts MARZ drummers. Cake and sparkling cider will be served.

The six sculptures will be on exhibit for one year and are the first of a rotating sculpture exhibition in the square. Future sculptures will be chosen in an annual competition.

A project of the Eureka Redevelopment Agency, the C Street Market Square is located at the foot of C Street on Eureka’s waterfront. It represents a significant step forward in the redevelopment of Eureka’s waterfront.

Art in public places has been the focus of Eureka Main Street’s Design Committee that consists of members from the Eureka Art and Culture Commission, The Ink People Center for the Arts, Redwood Art Association and Eureka Main Street board and staff. Other public art projects include the installation of six sculptures by the founding members of the Pacific Rim Sculpture Group donated to Eureka by Janis Milstead (which are located throughout the Main Street district), and a large horse sculpture of recycled metal by Linda Wise which is in the Myrtle Avenue median near northbound Highway 101.
