Bummerfest 2011

What:

Once again, Bummerfest returns to the basement of the Eureka Vet’s
Hall at 10th and H Sts., on Saturday, August 20, and Sunday, August
21, 2011. Doors open at noon. Each day, 13 local bands will play on
the two main stages. This year’s lineup is an eclectic mix of rock,
punk, indie/alternative and hip-hop.

Bummerfest 2010 was a one-day success after a four-year hiatus. This
year it is restored to two-day status. Local bands really want to be a
part of this and the core volunteers are excited about continuing the
tradition of affordable all-ages shows!

Bummerfest was started by members of Panache Magazine and the Placebo
Collective in 2001 to celebrate local bands who were not into playing
in the sun on the river—and to poke fun at another music festival
with a similar sounding name. It evolved into an annual celebration of
the local music scene, especially up-and-coming bands.

This year, the all-ages music extravaganza is being headed by long
time Placebo volunteers and alumni Renee Davis, Devon O’Leary and
friends. “We’re really excited to be making Bummerfest happen again
this year, and benefiting the Placebo, too,” says Davis. Davis has
come to many Placebo events, volunteered intermittently, and shown
artwork at The Placebo’s old venue in Manila. O’Leary is a former
Placebo Board member who has played his share of Placebo shows in
bands such as the Professional Superheroes. “It’s important that we
have shows for all ages,” he said. “That’s what the Placebo has always
been about.”

Proceeds from Bummerfest will benefit the all-ages Placebo collective
which has been venueless since the January 9th, 2010 earthquake
severely damaged the Ink People’s 411 12th Street Headquarters.

Advance tickets for both days are available for $12 at local record
stores. Tickets are $10 at the door for one day or $15 for both days.

For more information, check out the Facebook group, “Bummerfest 2011.”

Tickets for both days are $12 in advance at local record stores. At the door, tickets for each day are $10, or $15 for both days.
