Baykeeper Boat Tours

outdoors

Explore the Bay with Humboldt Baykeeper!

Do you know why the eelgrass beds of Humboldt Bay are so important to the Pacific Coast? How the indigenous people of the North Coast related to this giant estuary? When Europeans first crossed between the north and south spit to enter the Bay? Who are the Bay's greatest defenders and destroyers? You can find out all this and more through Bay Explorations, Humboldt Baykeeper's floating tour program on Humboldt Bay.

This year, Bay Explorations offers two ways to get out on the water. Our classic boat tours continue aboard our patrol boat, a 25-foot Boston Whaler that fits about five participants for hour-long adventure. Children of all ages will enjoy learning about local history and ecology with knowledgeable volunteer docents. These free boat tours are a great way to spend a morning with family or friends, not to mention the best opportunity to see first-hand the waves and wildlife that make this place special.

And new in 2008, Bay Explorations invites you to grab a paddle and experience our new kayak tours. We're partnering with HumBoats to offer people-powered excursions on the Bay, guided by the same expert volunteer docents who've made our motor boat tours a success. Kayak tours run for two hours with all equipment provided. The PRICE of each tour is $40 per person and includes a complementary membership in Humboldt Baykeeper!

Kayak tours are currently SCHEDULED for Sunday, June 29 at 10:00 a.m.; Wednesday, July 9 at 6:00 p.m.; Saturday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m.

Patrol boat tours run most Saturdays and Sundays at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

PRE-REGISTRATION is required for all tours. call 707-268-8897 or email volunteer@humboldtbaykeeper.org to sign up. Space is limited so please call at least one week in advance. Last year the wait-list was long and many tours were booked a month in advance. You can also visit www.humboldtbaykeeper.org/boattours.htm for details and scheduled tour dates.

Humboldt Baykeeper works to safeguard our coastal resources for the health, enjoyment, and economic strength of the Humboldt Bay community through education, scientific research, and enforcement of laws to fight pollution. Learn more about our other programs at www.humboldtbaykeeper.org.
