Starring Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll, The 39 Steps is a classic example of Hitchcock’s early British films, and the first to use a favorite Hitchcock plot device, the innocent man on the run. Based on the novel by John Buchan, this film was ranked #4 on the British Film Institute’s list of the Top 100 British Films.
