Ascend 2012

What:

Arcata, CA., — February 11th 2012— Please join us for a day of Arts Leadership Discussions at this first annual Ascend Summit on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 9a.m. – 5p.m. at the Kate Buchanan Room, on the Humboldt State University campus, in Arcata, CA.  The day will be filled with Keynote Speaker Flo Green, twelve energizing discussions lead by local arts leaders in the categories of Community Building and Social Change, Art as Business, Self-care, and Networking and Marketing, and an Artist in Residence presentation.

Ascend: A Summit for Emerging Arts Leaders will be an inclusive, experiential learning environment where emerging arts leaders will be provided opportunities for inspiration and the acquisition of practical knowledge to catalyze realizing their visions.

Immediate benefits for our next generation leaders will include a greater sense of leadership within the community from successfully developing a flexible working model for the Circle of Emerging Leaders. The CEL members may initiate new collaborative art projects and participants will find easy access to the knowledge and tools they need to run successful arts programs. In the long term, a cadre of brilliant arts leaders, who will envision vibrant arts and cultural projects, deepening and engaging their community, will be created.

In 2011, The Ink People began a focused effort to enhance leadership skills amongst our community’s Next Generation arts leaders, defined as 18-35 years old. A working group of NextGen and experienced arts leaders, called the Circle of Emerging Leaders (CEL), has been meeting since July figuring out how best to provide resources and skills training. Ascend is put on by the newly formed CEL. All proceeds from this event go to supporting our art, cultural, and service programs. Tickets are a sliding scale of just $10-$25 with no one turned away.
