Artists Of The Emerald Coast

What:

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 28th from 3pm to 8pm when the Mateel Community Center will present the 4th Annual Artists of the Emerald Coast. This art show/ wine tasting features the works of 30 local artists, and for the first time, more than 20 local student artists who are participants of the Spring Arts Collective, a Mateel program for young people, ages 11 to 17.

There will be complimentary hors d’oeuvres including Surati’s delectable sushi, Cathy’s Spanikopita and Ramone’s delicious veggie creations with the price of admission. Tastings of award-winning Southern Humboldt-made wines provided by Briceland, Elk Prairie and Whitethorn Vineyards will be available for purchase.

The hall will be filled upstairs and down with oil and watercolor painting, sculpture, photography, fine woodworking, mosaic, and more. Come see the beautiful watercolors of Marcy Stein, the water color on silk of Margriet Seinen, the photography of Wes Juliana, the oil paintings of Mykol Blackwell inspired by the beauty of the natural world, and the comical paintings of Stu Moskowitz. Other participating artist include Brian Allison, Penny Andrews, Mark Arceneaux, Marjory Brown, Hunter Gilliam, Bryce Gray, Sheri Howe, Amber Jones, Amy Leon, Alwyn L’Hoir, Natascha Marks, Johanna Markham-Miray, Mark Mitchell, Charlie Mott, Erin Nansen, Robert Permenter, Lauris Phillips, Aliana Knapp Prasek, Cinnamon Price, Jerry Pruce, Paul Sever, Twisted Woodworks, Sarah Young and the young artists of the 2012 Spring Arts Collective.

The student artists will have finished an 8-week course of 3-hour-a-week art workshops taught by professional painters, Margriet Seinen and Stu Moskowitz, and musician, Cathryn Guillette. Called “Spring Arts Collective” the Mateel-funded program provides a positive and focused creative outlet for youth in our area, ages 11–17, and seeks to help close the gap left by funding cuts to arts education in our schools.

Live acoustic music will also help set the mood for this fun afternoon of art and community. For more information about Artists of the Emerald Coast on Saturday, April 28th, call the Mateel at 923-3368 or visit www.mateel.org.
