Art at the Arcata Marsh

What:

Mike has been an HSU professor of Environmental Resources Engineering for over 35 years, and started photographing local as well as exotic birds 4 years ago. He has shown his work in many local galleries, and was named a finalist in the 2009 National Audubon Photo Contest, and featured in the Jan./Feb. 2010 edition of their magazine. Leslie, a graphic designer originally from Salt Lake City, has also shown her work locally, and recently was a “photo of the week” winner in the 2009 National Geographic International Photo Contest. Leslie will also exhibit some of her wildlife artwork, in a variety of mediums, from HSU’s Scientific Drawing class.
Mike and Leslie share a passion for the outdoors, and have gone on photo safaris in the Western US, South America and Canada. They have also spent many hours photographing in the beautiful North Coast marshlands. This show focuses on birds found in our area, and encourages the viewer to connect with the wonders of nature all around us. Leslie and Mike have published a book of local nature photos, “Marsh Moments,” that is available at the Interpretive Center, and on Amazon.com.
