Arcata Rotary Spring Wine Festival

What:

Arcata Rotary Spring Wine Festival, Saturday, March 19th 2011.

The Rotary Club of Arcata presents its third annual Arcata Rotary Spring Wine Festival; the festival will be held on March 19th from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at HSU’s Kate Buchanan Room.  Admission is $40 per person, or two for $70; price includes a gourmet buffet and wine tasting.

Arcata, CA (February 15, 2011) - Great local wine, supporting a great cause!  The Rotary Club of Arcata is proud to announce it’s upcoming benefit, The Arcata Rotary Spring Wine Festival.  The event features only local wines, with emphasis on local foods as well.

All proceeds from the event benefit Arcata Rotary’s community service projects: Backpacks for Kids (which feeds low-income kids attending Arcata elementary schools), local scholarship programs benefitting Arcata High School students, and an anti-malaria campaign in Sierra Leone, West Africa.

“The event is a great way to sample a lot of our local wines, while also helping support Rotary’s service projects,” says Dick Wild, President of the Rotary Club of Arcata.

The inaugural event featured 16 local wineries.  “But this year, we’ll have even more winemakers participating,” says festival co-chair Barbara Overton.  “It’s a great way to support our local economy, Humboldt’s growing wine industry, and the excellent work Rotary does in our community.”

Andrew Morris with Briceland Vineyards says “The Arcata Rotary’s event is the best, most complete Humboldt wine tasting in the county, hands down.”

“Libation is proud to be a sponsor of the event because it’s promoting our local wine makers, giving them a great venue to showcase their wines, and it’s for a good cause,” says Ed Bernard, owner of Libation.

Tickets for The Arcata Rotary Spring Wine Festival are $40 each, or two for $70, and can be purchased at Libation on the Arcata Plaza, Riverbend Cellars, and Briceland Vineyards.

New this year is the addition of Humboldt Wine University, a series of classes, discussions, and presentations preceding the festival.  Wine University attendees will choose between several courses led by Humboldt winemakers John Cabot with Cabot Vineyard, Bob Hodgson with Fieldbrook Winery, and Andrew Morris with Briceland Vineyards.  The event also features a panel discussion with several local winemakers on the history and future of Humboldt County Wines.

Wine University classes begin at 3:00p.m. in Founders Hall on the campus of Humboldt State University.  Admission is $25 per person ($35 at the door, space remaining).  Those who attend both the Wine University and The Arcata Rotary Spring Wine Festival save: tuition and festival admission is $60 per person or two for $100.

Advance registration is recommended.  Course descriptions, registration forms and tickets are available at www.humwines.com, www.arcatarotary.org, Briceland Vineyards, Riverbend Cellars, and Libation on the Arcata Plaza.

The event is entirely volunteer-driven, with support lent by Libation, KAEF, Arcata Main Street, local wineries, the Humboldt Wine Association, and many Arcata businesses.
