17th Annual Festival of Hispanic Cultures

College of the Redwoods will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with its 16th Annual Festival of Hispanic Cultures on Tuesday, April 27, Wednesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 29. All activities will be held in the Lakeview Room.
On Tuesday, April 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Guest presenter Dr. Barbara Curiel, professor of English and Ethnic Studies at HSU, presents the Morgan Spurlock film “30 Days: Immigration”. In this documentary, a man who has staunch anti-immigration views and is a member of the Minutemen, lives with a family of undocumented immigrants. There will be a discussion following the screening.
On Wednesday, April 28, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Dr. Lilianet Brintrup, Professor of Spanish and Literature at HSU will share her insights on California and her experiences on writing her 2009 book “Fractures in California”.
On Thursday, April 29, the Cinco de Mayo celebration begins from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring music performed by faculty and students, dance, students’ essays on the meaning of Cinco de Mayo, songs, poetry, more dance, theater performance and delicious Mexican food.
