What:
Contemporary Composer Mohammed Fairouz featured September 26th at Arkley Center.
Local tenor David Powell, along with other local musicians invite music lovers to the west coast premier of new music by internationally renowned composer Mohammed Fairouz, who will be in attendance to discuss his works. Mohammed’s music has been showcased in some of our nations’ most prestigious concert halls including performances at Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, and the Kennedy Center. The evenings’ events will begin with a panel discussion by the composer, and will be followed by a performance of his chamber music for voice, cello, flute, violin and clarinet. This is a rare opportunity for the north coast to experience the future of classical music in a forum designed to intrigue, inform, and inspire the listeners.
Mohammed Fairouz is considered to be at the forefront of modern classical music by scholars and listeners alike, receiving rave reviews wherever his music is performed. Maestro Fairouz masterfully marries the seemingly separate schools of western compositional technique, and the modalities and expression of his own cultural middle-eastern music. Mohammed Fairouz has been creating new music for over 10 years, and is continually presenting some of the most innovative, thought provoking, and unifying music of the 21st century.
David Powell was born and raised in the Eureka area, and attended HSU for his early college education, and went on to the University of Oregon and The Boston Conservatory of Music. He has performed in churches and concert halls across the country, but he has more recently returned home to spend time with ailing family. He has been seen on stage locally with the North Coast Repertory Theater, the Ferndale Repertory Theater, and most recently with Dell Arte in Blue Lake: The Opera as well as staging his own voice recitals in the area. David is honored to help bring the music of Mohammed Fairouz home to share with the community.
Tickets will be available for $25 to the general public, and $15 to students. To purchase tickets contact the box office at the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts (707-442-1956) between the hours of 11am and 5pm.
