Maya Conference
What:
The 2010 Humboldt County Maya Conference will be held on Saturday March 27, at the College of the Redwoods Eureka main campus, Room FM100 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a lunch break. Admission is free.
Northern California boasts many scholars, archaeologists, anthropologists, geographers, epigraphers and iconographers who focus on the Maya area: a culture zone located in what is now Guatemala, Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. The conference has been organized to present recent research to people living in Humboldt County, and to showcase local talent in the field. In particular, researchers may present new information on the so-called Classic Maya collapse, the “End of the World” 2012 hoax, Ancient Maya religion, the Maya environment, and Maya hieroglyphic writing.
A question and answer period about the talks or recent public fascination with the 2012 event may follow the presentations, which will be 20-30 minutes in length per presenter.
A list of confirmed presenters includes Marisol Cortes-Rincon (Humboldt State University), Sue Hayes (Sonoma State University), Zachary Hruby (College of the Redwoods/HSU), Dave Johnstone (College of the Redwoods), Martha Macri (University of California at Davis), William Clay Poe (Sonoma State University) and Justine Shaw (College of the Redwoods).
