We (A committed group of Clark district neighbors, 2 city council men and the city manager) have been working for 20 months with the city on the aquisition of the Jefferson school site. The Eureka City School district had accepted an offer to buy, we went forth with a grant application for the playground and an expensive feasibility study, Eureka City School district blindsided us and took an offer (for less money) from CR to purchase Jefferson School . This is a contentious issue, we started with public scoping meetings at the Warfinger to see what the people of the community wanted and needed at this public site. We, the citizens of Eureka have paid for this property once through the assesment as a school and are even willing to pay for it again. We were the only bid during the public agency bid period. The people of Eureka and the Clark district were clear that they wanted a neighborhood facility with opportunities and resources for the children and families of the neighborhood we (the committee) worked tirelessly interviewing potential renters and reviewing their “programs” to see if they were in keeping with the desires of the citizens. CR has plans to intensify use of the school building, put a parking lot in our park :( and more. I think this would be a great story for your Mag. Please contact me for more information. Best of luck outing the Heraldo’s and the Mirrors of the Humco blogosphere (sorry about the premature postulation).

I certainly have no problem with web anonymity, but when the authors of the aforementioned blogs launch ad hominem attacks time after time, all the while hiding behind their anonymity, then they should have the courage to make these attacks with their names attached. HumCo would be more a more civil place.

Why is it that the Hank Sims of the HumCo Journalistic world have no interest in outing these supposed bloggers when they continue to push out news without doing the journalistic due diligence that the newsies must go through before publishing?

One gets the nauseating feeling that more than a few of the local journos are actually feeding these blogs.

Hell, it’d be an enormous story if the Heraldo’s were operating from the NEC (and why do we get the feeling that Hank actually has a pretty damn good idea who they - does anyone really believe its one person - are), or if the Mirror was an Arkley front.

Haters have no justification. They show up and all are “oooooooh, I just used my real name and genuine IP address to make a commonly-repeated, non-inflammatory, run-of-the-mill, politics-as-usual statement… chew on that.”

Psssshhhhhtt, anonymous bloggin is king. Ain’t no future in this “journalistic integrity” fluff. If a blog “journalist” says something wrong, they get called on it immediately for all to read on the same page. With a newspaper, we gotta wait days until the editors decide to publish some crappy counterpoint letter to the editor if they even receive one. And after that, we gotta wait more days until someone counters that letter to the editor. Too slow, fuck that.

Anyone who knows is not about to tell y’all. Some of the folks that know don’t even let on to who they know that they know. And, the last person they are about to tell is some newspaper reporter. I know some newsies and when they question me, I don’t know anything. So, good freakin’ luck with this being on the outside looking in, not knowing shit.

Yes, verily I attest to the above commenters astute observation that anonymous political, social, philosophical or judicial commentary must be done in the open, with real names attached to those who would sully our great nation’s dedication to free and open discourse.

We shall no longer be a party to “highly-placed sources” within various administrations of government. Nay, we demand a full and open public square, where dissent shall be named, where agreement must come with a face attached, where speech is bundled up and tightly wrapped in severe restrictions on who may say what, when they may say it and how they must identify themselves before they say it.

It’ll be sooo much more civil that way.

I got some credible info. I see this one guy always buying 24 packs of PBR cans at the Ray’s Food Place in Dogtown. I thought I seen him buying batteries one time, presumably for some type of electronic blogging device. He routinely cops some of that Duane Flatmo brand firewood too so he probably blogs instead of chopping wood. Where do I collect these ducats?
