Dear Editor,
I wish to thank everyone for the overwhelming support my family and I have received these past few weeks over the sudden and tragic loss of my husband Roger. The amount of love and prayers sent our way has been a comfort to us all.
Losing Roger does not mean we have to lose the ideals and values Roger stood for – honesty, integrity, a champion for the rights of his constituency and a common sense approach to government. Even though I still grieve, I am writing this letter to you today to urge you to continue his vision by voting for Roger in the June 3rd election.
As you probably know by now I’ve been appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to finish out Roger’s term. I am honored to be in the position to take up where Roger left off in his role of being a strong “straight forward” voice on the Board of Supervisors and to carry on his vision in honor of his memory. Roger and I were partners in his political career. Along with being his advisor and confidant, I shared his goals and aspirations. Our 30 year partnership will make my transition from Roger’s partner to Roger’s replacement on the Board of Supervisors a seamless one.
Roger is still a candidate on the June 3rd ballot and I want to encourage voters to Vote for Roger to ensure his vision for the future of Humboldt County.
Sincerely,
Johanna Rodoni

So we should vote for Roger because it is better to have a dead person than a liberal? Is that what you are trying to say Johanna?
Who would take that seat should Roger win, Johanna?
Please do tell us- Your endorsement here needs more explanation
Don’t be obtuse, Anonn … if Roger wins 50% + 1 in June, the governor appoints his replacement in Jan ’09 and that person stands for election in 2010. If Roger fails to get 50% + 1 in June, Estelle and Cliff duke it out in Nov ’08 unless one of them wins it outright in June (highly unlikely).
Although there is no 100% certainty, it is likely the Jan ’09 appointment would be Johanna.
Roger was class act, and Johanna is a class act. The voters of the 2nd District have clear choices in this election and the selection of Roger is a great choice for those uninterested in no-growth, leftist policy making.
IF people want to support Johanna, they should “write in” her name. That would be the proper way to handle this situation.
So then why doesn’t she flat out say that? Why does she ask for us to vote for someone who no longer physically exists? If you ask your ward to vote for someone posthumously, then you must atleast tell them who will take the seat. An “eyewink” doesn’t cut it, especially in print.
Johanna did not and will not file as a write-in candidate. To write her in now would be the same as not voting for any of the candidates.
If Roger receives a 50% plus one vote plurality the governor would then appoint someone to fulfill his term until the next general election which I believe is in November of 2010. It would be reasonable to assume that Johanna would be that appointee.
Estelle Fennell is pro-business and has fine support from small business people around the district (gas station owners, real estate agents, builders, insurance people, etc.) Estelle is NOT a “no-growth leftist” at all, Mr. Chris Crawford.
RIP Roger. Vote Estelle Fennell.
estelle is a pretentious snob.
South Hummers didn’t show up at the polls to put Carlos Quillez on the Harbor District. Later, the District Board voted 3 to 2 vote to throw more money down the railroad rathole. If Carlos had been elected, it wouldn’t have happened. That money could have been used for restoration work on the Eel.
This election is another opportunity for you to effect change by voting for either Estelle or Clif. You gotta want it to get it. Being distrutful of Government doesn’t exempt you from being affected by it. Act in your interest. All it takes is casting a ballot. There’s even still time to register.
if, that biggest word in the english language, as I have heard it called. You can enact change by voting for Rodoni. Unfortunatyely the so-humers you’re talking to don’t vote because they don’t want the man knowing where they are.
