ABOUT HUMBOLDT
COUNTY
Humboldt is located on California's rugged, beautiful
North Coast about 30 miles south of Redwood National Park and
one hour south of the Oregon border.
Garberville
is the southern gateway to Humboldt County, home of towering
redwood trees, Reggae on the River and Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
Fortuna
known as both "Sunny Fortuna" and the "Friendly
City" offers a charming slice of small-town Americana.
Ferndale is a rural dairy town that has been
designated a National Historic Landmark (yes, the entire town)
for its well-preserved and abundant Victorian architecture.
The city of Eureka is the county seat and is situated
across from the entrance to Humboldt Bay. It is known for its
Victorian architecture, lively Old Town and waterfront district,
and very active visual and performing arts community.
Arcata,
about seven miles to the north and home of Humboldt State University,
frequently lands on magazine lists for "The 10 best Places
to live in the United States." It, too, boasts of Victorians
a-plenty.
To the east lie Blue Lake, Willow Creek and Hoopa, warm
and sunny, away from the fog that often hugs the coastline.
Trinidad,
on the craggy northern coast, is noted for its pictureque harbor,
beaches and Patrick's
Point State Park.
Just to the north is Orick, the northern gateway
to yet more redwood forest, herds of Roosevelt elk, lagoons and Prairie Creek State Park.
Our weekends are spent gardening, going to the
Farmers' Market, beachcombing, rafting the rivers or hiking the
Trinity Alps in our backyard when it's not raining (aw, heck,
we'll go out even if it is raining).
