There are officially three candidates in the running for a soon-to-be-vacated  council seat from Eureka's Fifth Ward.

They are:
Chet Albin, who's currently the vice chair of the Eureka Planning Commission;
Leslie Lollich, a spokeswoman for the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services;
and Barry Smith, the owner of Barry Smith Construction.

One of those three will be selected by the council to replace Lance Madsen, who's stepping down for health reasons.

According to the city release:

Mayor Frank Jager has created a committee that will interview the three applicants and make a recommendation to him. Mayor Jager will then interview the recommended applicant(s) and propose the appointment of the successful applicant at the December 17, 2013 Regular Council meeting.
