Pets Die in McVille Mobile Fire

Posted on Fri, Dec 11, 2009 at 12:15 PM

A fire in a mobile at the Ocean West Mobile Home Park in McKinleyville last night killed two cats and a dog, according to a news release from the Arcata Fire Protection District which responded to the fire just before midnight. The human occupant escaped.

Firefighters attacked the fire and began a primary search of the residence. A second team of firefighters was sent in to assist with the search and all three animals were found and brought outside. Resuscitation efforts were immediately started but all three animals were deceased.

The release says the homeowner had emptied her ash tray into a waste basket in her bedroom, the fire spread to the bed, and the woman then fled to the neighbor's to call 911. She didn't have a working smoke detector in her mobile.
