As Ol' Salty Used To Say

Posted By on Thu, Nov 1, 2007 at 8:55 AM

Today's Times-Standard editorial on municipal wi-fi takes the default T-S approach: On the one hand, X. But then again, Y. So let's have all good people come together for a solution that will be mutually beneficial for all, because we hate having to choose sides.

However, the editorial kicks off with an arresting bit of imagery. Arresting as in: You should be arrested for grand theft.

There are times when it is good to be a first adopter of a new technology, and times when it's better to lie back and see how things sort out. That may be especially true when governments are involved, because technology sometimes can be -- as sailors say of their boats -- a hole in the water you throw money into.

Hmmm ... Where have we heard that before?
