Supreme Court "What-Ifs" Ad Absurdum: The Swing State Project blog gets a little bit wacky prognosticating President Obama's next Supreme Court pick -- so wacky that it reaches down and touches us!. For instance, what if, contrary to all available intelligence, he picks Interior Secretary Ken Salazar? Well, that might mean that Rep. Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) would be picked to fill Salazar's seat. What then? Well, maybe our ex-Assemblymember Patty Berg would be tapped to replace Thompson! Or maybe current Assemblymember Wes Chesbro would!
Let's keep it going. If Chesbro is picked, who replaces him? I'm gonna say there would be a special election, and that the principal candidates would be Humboldt County Supervisor Bonnie Neely and ex-Supe (and current Chesbro aide) John Woolley! Now let's say Neely wins! Schwarzenegger could appoint Eureka Mayor Virginia Bass to fill the remainder of her term! WHAT THEN????
