Don't Let Your Tuesday Be Snoozeday! El Vez, Rosie Flores and the Lost Luvs tonight

Posted by on Tue, Dec 17, 2013 at 9:04 AM

Not everyone has a rip-away gold lamé suit on display at the Smithsonian. But when you're legendary Chicano Elvis impersonator El Vez, it just stands to reason. For 25 years, the Elvis translator has elucidated Chicano history by highlighting the musical connections between classic pop, rock and punk songs as filtered through Mexican and Afro-Caribbean music. This brilliance is not something you'd see every day and is a rare treat in our neck of the redwoods.

In the spirit of the holidays, please enjoy this:

And El Vez isn't the only legend landing in the Jambalaya tonight – rockabillly queen Rosie Flores brings her one-of-a-kind rockabilly, honky tonk, jazz and Western swing blend. How legendary is Flores? If you're in Austin, Texas on August 31, be prepared to celebrate Rosie Flores Day. In a city brimming with talented musicians, having one's own day is something extra special.

Bask in the brilliance tonight. Be charmed right now:

The reverbalicious girl group Lost Luvs  opens. Music starts around 9 p.m., cover is $10.
